ETSS Cross w/ Flower

Wow!  Not very many people have the gumption to stop by a page with this kind of title!!

As you can tell on my about page (and other posts here and there on this site about my adventures and misadventures), I am a seminarian at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest.

I am single and a proud father of two small kids.  The seminary program is very intense.  As you can read on my Stewardship Witness, I’m not one to let a little thing like money hold me back from trusting that the direction the Spirit has set before me is the right path to take.

So I begin this fall- I’m planning on working despite the heavy load of the seminary program at ETSS (Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest) in Austin, and would love to have any additional support you would like to contribute to my success in the ministry of Jesus Christ and the inclusive love of God.

Tax-deductible contributions can be earmarked for my support if mailed to:

Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest, PO Box 2247, Austin, TX 78768

Be sure to designate that it is for your “Wish to support the seminary expenses of Jeff Martinhauk.”  Note that any relative of mine needs to contact the seminary before contributing- it may not be tax-deductible for close relatives.

I am also working on a way to accept credit card donations online, but that is new for the seminary so will take some time.

Finally, if you like to buy things online and are interested in supporting me, there is a link on the sidebar which will allow you to purchase things through  By clicking through this link you will be taken to Amazon and I will receive a commission on your purchase (your price will not be different than if you had gone directly to the main site).  For me to receive commission, your cart must be purchased within 24 hours of your initial click-through.  Every little bit helps, and thanks!

Thank you so much for your consideration and support, and may the Grace of the God whose love passes all understanding be upon you!!

  1. Jeff,
I’m a 2nd year seminarian at CDSP so I can’t support you financially. I can offer advice and the listening ear of a fellow seminarian. I have browsed through your blog and see you have a deep love of Scripture. Excellent. Have you ever heard of the practice of Lectio Divina? It’s a way of meditating on the Scripture is that opens you to contemplation. A good web page is at . I highly encourage you to develop, if you haven’t already, a method of contemplative prayer. I practice Centering Prayer. A good web page for that is . An alumni of ETSS, The Rev. Sandy Casey-Martus at All Saints in Austin is a great person to talk to about Centering Prayer. She has practice Centering Prayer for over 30 years, did it while she was in seminary. Best wishes on your seminary journey.

Thanks Debbie! I’ll check them out!

  3. Tim Says:

Welcome to Austin Jeff! Have you checked with the good folks at ETSS about financial assistance? When I entered 21 years ago, they were very diligent in finding various sources of grants and work-study as income. (I got a job at the Archives housed on campus for work-study.)

Be sure to stop by St. James’ in Austin – there’s no other Episcopal church in the country quite like it (and certainly not anything like it in the Dio of Texas!)

Not good form to beg for money.

  6. Jeff Says:

I don’t know anything about you.

But in my parish, we talk about money openly.

    I’m not begging for money.

    I’m stating my need.

I’m a single father, unemployed, and putting myself through seminary.

If you are reading this blog, then you are participating in my ministry.

If you want to support my ministry, than I am inviting you to do so and showing you exactly how to do that most effectively.
