Marriage Equality

From Planet Out News:

A bill to legalize same-sex marriage passed the New York state Assembly on Tuesday night in a decisive 85-61 vote.

And also:

A gay civil rights bill passed by Colombia’s lower house last week was thrown out when a group of senators used a procedural vote to change their minds, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

It looks like the NY bill will fail in the senate as well and become set for a 2008 election issue in that state.  But– in both cases it is forward movement, and that is good.  We will win this issue!  We have to keep working the theology as well so that the underlying fears people have about us not being “equal” in either the secular or sacred sense continue to dissipate!

  1. I think the thought is that the issue is already won. It is just taking time for the laws to catch up with the culture.

This was the same sort of thing that happened with inter-racial marriage 40 years ago.
