Scriptural Inclusion

From today's Daily Office:

Col 3:9-11

Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator. In that renewal there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all!

The notes in my Bible lead me to a similar verse, Gal 3:28

There is no longer Jew or Greek, slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.

We are all one in Christ.  We are all equal.  ALL.

As we go through today's election in the Diocese of California, the AAC is already repositioning themselves to focus not on the potential outcome of an elected gay or lesbian bishop, but instead on the "insult" that the nominating committee made to the Communion when they nominated 3 gay candidates.

What happened to Biblical literalism and authority of Scripture?  Isn't that what they have been harping about?  "All of us are one in Christ Jesus."

The truth is that it doesn't matter what happens, they have already made up their minds.  They want schism.  They want a more authoritarian system where David Anderson will have definitive authority to set doctrine instead of a free-flowing system where the Spirit cannot be bottlenecked by any one person.  They don't want to be one in Christ Jesus, they want to separate an arm from the Body of Christ.

Thank God for allowing us all, David Anderson included, to be one in Christ Jesus, and through his reconciling, redeeming, and inspiring power let us find a path forward that allows us to have the compassion, patience, and love that we need in order to do the work that we are called to do to achieve that vision!
